Suede ditches the avant garde and goes pop with Coming Up, but I do love this album. It’s a shame that the DMS 20th anniversary edition was not similar to this. That was a rather ridiculous release that included a plastic carrier bag and a cassette with ‘original inlay’ – wow, amazing!

With this album, Suede proved all their detractors wrong and simply blew away the critics by producing ten of the best rock/pop tracks for years. The singles from the album speak for themselves - the glorious, dewy-eyed 'Trash', the melancholy 'Saturday Night', the glam-tastic 'Film Star' and the utterly unmatched 'Beautiful Ones' - with tracks /5(46).

'Trash' ripped up the charts to number three and became Suede's biggest ever hit, selling in excess of 60, copies and dominating the airwaves that summer. The album followed on September 2nd. It needed a title that encapsulated the orgasmic thrill of the record but also said something about the band's Lazarus-like return from the dead.

The group returned as a five-piece in September of with Coming Up. A lighter, more band-oriented affair than either of Suede's two previous albums, Coming Up was an unexpected hit, entering the charts at number one and generating a remarkable string of five Top Ten hits -- "Trash," "Beautiful Ones," "Saturday Night," "Lazy," and "Filmstar.".
